Abstract
This study examines representation of social reform in Marathi and Gujarati literatures in the form of how these literary works have been reflecting and influencing socio-cultural changes within their respective territories. The paper examines the literary treatment of themes like gender equality, caste structures, and economic progress during periods of immense social change. A mixed-methodology research design is employed, using thematic qualitative analysis in conjunction with quantitative statistical findings. The findings reveal that literary productions in Marathi and Gujarati languages have been a catalyst for direction towards social reform by questioning existing norms and advocating progressive values. Additionally, the study highlights the importance of influential literary personalities and historical events that have been responsible for social change, in favor of the argument that literature is not merely a reflection of changing society but also a tool of reform.
