Abstract
This research investigates the revival of Sanskrit in contemporary educational environments in India, comparing its evolution and challenges with those of Tamil—a very old language with a rich literary and cultural heritage. Historical foundations, contemporary trends, strategies for integrating the curriculum, and socio-political forces governing language revitalization are investigated in the research.
Qualitative analysis, field interviews, and comparative analysis of curricula, employing qualitative analysis, in-depth field interviews, and comparative analysis of curricula, reveal strong driving forces, pedagogical innovations, and cultural attitudes governing both Sanskrit and Tamil. Findings reveal that both languages enjoy institutional support and popular interest but have their paths of revitalization steered by different socio-cultural narratives, government interventions, and mechanisms of community involvement. The paper concludes by presenting policy recommendations to consolidate language revitalization programs in contemporary educational systems.
